Sports Minister, Former La Liga Star Mourns Ex Golden Eaglets Player

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare has expressed his sadness over the sudden death of former Nigerian U-17 star, Philip Osondu.

According to reports on Friday, Osondu, 48, died in Belgium after he was taken to hospital to be examined on Thursday. Unfortunately, it was reported that he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Osondu, who was a member of the Golden Eaglets squad that finished second at the 1987 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Canada, was awarded the Golden Ball for his impressive performance at the tournament.

Reacting to the development, the Sports Minister extended his condolences to the family of Osondu.

He wrote on his twitter handle: ”My condolences to the family, relatives, friends, and colleagues of Phillip Osondu on his sudden death. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

In the same vein, former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju penned his condolence message to the family of late Osondu and described him as a player he played with at the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He wrote on his handle:” Philip Osondu was my teammate at Saudi 89 FIFA U20 World Cup, where we helped Nigeria finish in second position. So shattered about the news of his passing. Dear Lord, do grant him eternal rest and console his family.”
