Semi Ajayi Reveals His Best Role

The West Brom star has played in a defensive midfield role sometimes, but he enjoys playing as a centre back.  Ajayi is currently having one of his best seasons in recent years both at club level and international level.

Speaking in an interview on Super Eagles Youtube page, the former Rotherham player revealed he sees himself as a centre back first, but he is always ready to play in any position as long as it helps the team.

“I definitely see myself as a defender first and foremost, I see myself as a defender who can also play in midfield and his comfortable doing so, but definitely not all round, so centre back is where I am comfortable”

The 26-year-old has made 23 appearances for the Baggies this season while he has also established himself in the Super Eagles squad.

Despite making his international debut in September 2018, it was not until a year later that Ajayi became a key member of the Super Eagles squad.

He was dropped from the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations but is now one of the first names on the team list.

The West Brom star revealed he is happy with the new look Super Eagles, saying it is normal for a country to make changes after a major tournament.

“Yea, I think it’s natural for every National team that after a major tournament finishes, a new cycle begins, new players are introduced, older players may phase out or retire.”

“At the beginning of a new cycle now, we have started really well, a lot of the new faces have slotted in really well, and I have made a claim, and it is just to show that the future is really bright for Nigeria, Ajayi said.
