KNBV Cup: Nigerian Striker Returns To Goalscoring Form

After firing blanks in his last two games for Heracles Almelo, Cyriel Dessers found his goalscoring boots once again as his club recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Dordrecht on Wednesday night.

A first half strike from Cyriel Dessers, coupled with a second half double off the boots of Silvester van der Water and Tim Breukers helped Heracles book their place in the third round of the KNBV Cup.

Dessers fired the hosts ahead in the 17th minute before van der Water doubled the lead after 50 minutes. Dessers then provided the assist for Tim Breukers’s goal which sealed the comfortable victory four minutes from time.

It was the 25-year-old’s first goal in three games after he failed to found the back of the net against Sparta Rotterdam and former club Utrecht.

Before then, the former NAC Breda star had smashed home six goals and supplied three assists across just three matches in a very productive November. That goal-and-assist haul earned him the Eredivisie’s Player of the Month award.

But December has not been so kind to a player keen to impress Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr so as to earn a first call up to the Nigeria setup.

Up next for Cyriel Dessers and Heracles is a trip to Heerenveen, a team two spots and two points above Heracles in 7th place. It would be a chance for Dessers to add to his 11 league goals scored in 17 appearances.
