Kelechi Iheanacho played a major role as a much-changed Leicester City bounced back from the 4-0 loss to Liverpool with a win over West Ham at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
The Foxes went into the game following footballing lesson at the hands of leaders Liverpool on Boxing Day. However, they put the defeat behind them as they ended a run of three league games without a win with a hard-earned victory over the Hammers.
Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho making just his second league start put the Foxes ahead in the 40th minute with a header following a ball from Ayoze Perez.
It was Iheanacho’s 3rd league goal of the season, and fifth goal in all competitions. The Nigerian international was only making his fourth league appearance of the season.
But the lead was shortlived as West Ham drew level through Pablo Fornals on the stroke of halftime. However, sealed the three points when Demarai Gray put them ahead 11 minutes after the restart following a brilliant pass from Ayoze Perez.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho’s Super Eagles teammate, Wilfred Ndidi was brought on in the 70th minute of the encounter as a replacement for Mendy.
The win keeps Leicester City in second place with 42 points from 20 games, 10 points behind leaders Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp’s men have two games in hand.
