Former Cameroon Coach Charges Club Brugge To Find A Better Striker Than Nigerian Duo

The Belgian giants have been tasked with finding a top striker to support the services of their Nigerian born stars.

Club Brugge must get a new prolific striker should they be serious about being successful on the domestic and continental scene, according to former Belgium defender Hugo Broos.

Nigerian forwards David Okereke and Emmanuel Dennis currently star for the Blue-Blacks but both have struggled in front of goal so far.

Okereke, who joined Club from Italian Serie B side Spezia in the summer, enjoyed a fine start to the campaign after scoring 4 times in his first 4 matches.

But the 22-year-old has only managed 5 goals in his last 18 games, the last of which arrived over a month ago in a 3-0 defeat of Kortrijk.

Emmanuel Dennis became the toast of many – even earned a Super Eagles call-up – by scoring a brace at the Santiago Bernabeu on matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League.

But the youngster has found goals hard to come by since with only 4 strikes to his name in 13 appearances in the Jupiler League.

In light of this, league leaders Brugge have been advised by Broos to seek more firepower to maintain their title charge and to stand a chance when they face Manchester United in the knockout phase of the Europa League.

The former Cameroon coach insists Okereke is not good enough while Emmanuel Dennis only functions well as a winger and not a striker.

“What does Club Brugge need? A top striker,” Hugo Broos told Het Nieuwsblad as quoted by VoetbalBelgie.

“With Okereke, I thought they had made a good move, but his goals have stopped completely.”

“I hear rumours about Benteke and Batshuayi. If they can make that happen, they will hurt every club in Belgium.

“Club has always had top strikers: (Daniel) Amokachi, Bacca, Spehar, Stanic, Wesley …and now?

“Tau is not a striker, Dennis must come from the side.”

Daniel Amokachi is still held in high esteem in Belgium where he banged in 35 goals in 81 matches for Club Brugge in the early 90s. Both Okereke and Dennis would have to increase their productivity to be considered good enough.
