Exclusive: Olympic Gold Medalist Charges Iheanacho To Keep Up His Impressive Form

After missing the game against Watford, Iheanacho was handed his first league start of the season by Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, in their win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

His partnership with Premier League’s top scorer, Jamie Vardy is yielding great results, providing the assist for his opener.

The 23-year-old is gradually winning his way into the heart of Rodgers with his recent impressive performance in the colours of the Foxes.

The Nigerian international, who netted his first Premier League goal against Everton last week, was also on hand to score his second goal in Leicester City’s 4-1 thrashing of Aston Villa on Sunday.

His impressive display has seen former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph laud Iheanacho’s determination to utilize every opportunity that comes his way after sitting on the bench for so long.

The Atlanta Olympic gold medalist told Soccernet.ng in a chat that Iheanacho has what it takes to remain in Rodgers’ starting eleven.

“I am delighted with Kelechi Iheanacho’s impressive performance with Leicester City. I think he’s gradually winning his warming his way back into City manager, Brendan Rodgers,” Dosu told Soccernet.ng.

“His goal against Everton and most recently against Aston Villa shows he has improved a lot. It also shows the player’s hunger and determination to be in the starting eleven of the Leicester City manager having been overlooked for so many games.

“It will be nice if he will keep up with the good performance so that he will find his way back into the Super Eagles team. He must keep his head straight and act as if he has not been played in the team. I believe Iheanacho will make good of this rare opportunity been giving to him.”

The Nigerian international before his goal against Everton last played for the team on May 6, 2019, against Manchester City; a game they lost 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
