Don’t Crucify Iheanacho Over Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Former Nigeria’s Goalkeeper

Ex international, Dosu Joseph says the poor sportsmanship conduct of Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho against Norwich is as a result of the player’s hunger and determination to impress the Foxes manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Having kept his place in Leicester City’s first eleven, the Nigerian international was hauled off in the first half for unsportsmanlike behaviour in the Foxes’ 1-1 home draw against Norwich City in Saturday’s Premier League.

Iheanacho’s action did not go down well with the Norwich players as they surrounded him. Then in the 39th minute Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers replaced the Nigeria international with Demarai Gray.

Reacting to Leicester City boss action, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist told Soccernet.ng that Iheanacho’s shouldn’t be crucified for his behaviour as it could have happened to any player.

Dosu said that the action of the former Golden Eaglets star wasn’t intentional.

“We all have our different opinions considering Kelechi Iheanacho’s action to continue with the game instead of him to have maintained the fair play method,” Dosu told Soccernet.ng.

“The young man was just hungry to convince Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers after been giving another opportunity to start the game against Norwich.

“It could have happened to any player and I don’t think it will be ideal to crucify him due to his poor sportsmanship conduct. I want to believe he will learn from what happened and make amends for the best.

The Nigerian international will be hoping to be in the Foxes line up against Everton in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final.
