Bukayo Saka Speaks About Lacazette And Inspiring Arsenal To Europa League Progression

The youngster assisted one and scored another as the Gunners fought back from two goals down to rescue a 2-2 draw in Belgium on Thursday.

Two second half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Bukayo Saka rescued Freddie Ljungberg’s men from the jaws of defeat as Arsenal secured a stalemate against Standard Liege in the Europa League.

Saka was the star of the show as the Gunners scraped through as group winners. Following a goalless first half, the hosts ran to a two-goal lead with strikes from Bastien and Amallah.

But with twelve minutes left to play, Saka provided the assist for Lacazette to halve the deficit before the prodigious young talent smashed home the equalizer two minutes later.

The 18-year-old was delighted with his impact in the game while praising the connection he is building with French striker Lacazette.

“I am very proud the way we reacted. We knew what the score was in Frankfurt which meant that we had to score twice to get the top spot in our group,” the Arsenal midfielder told UEFA.com.

“Luckily we did it. It feels great to be so decisive for my team with a goal and an assist. Lacazette and I have a good connection on the pitch and we showed it again today.”

The draw may not be the result that caretaker manager Ljungberg was gunning for but it was enough to see Arsenal top Group F.

This means the Gunners will avoid playing one of the stronger teams who have dropped into the competition from the Champions League, such as Inter or Ajax, when the round of 32 draws is made on Monday.
