Asisat Oshoala Ends Drought In Barcelona’s Victory Over Stubborn Foes

The Nigeria international finally got back on the goalscoring trail as Barcelona Ladies grilled out a hard fought 3-1 victory over Granadilla Tenerife at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Saturday.

Oshoala scored her first goal in two months to hand the league leaders a first half lead and set them on the way to a gruelling win over a stubborn Tenerife side.

Cristina Martín-Prieto equalized for the visitors on the hour mark, but further strikes from Norwegian Caroline Hansen and Alexia Putellas in the final 12 minutes of the tie ensured that Barcelona ended with all three points in the bag.

The win was the Blaugranes’ fourteenth consecutive victory in all competitions in what is turning out to be an incredible campaign for head coach Lluis Cortés’ ladies.

Barcelona started brightly and deservedly took the lead after just 17 minutes when Marta Torrejon assisted Oshoala’s opener. But Tenth-placed Tenerife who were the last league side to beat Barcelona back in May proved difficult to break down yet again.

The visitors then stunned the Cules on the hour mark when Cristina Martín-Prieto turned home the equalizer off an Aleksandra Zaremba assist.

Oshoala then came off for Aitana Bonmati with 15 minutes left to play and moments later the 21-year-old substitute provided the assist to Hansen’s goal which broke the resistance of the stubborn guests.

Five minutes later, it was 3-1 thanks to Alexia Putellas’ 6th goal of the season. Nigeria’s Oshoala would be delighted though with her 8th league goal of the campaign and her first in six matches.

The win takes Barcelona Femeni’s points haul to 37 points, five points clear of champions Atletico Madrid who also managed a 2-1 win over CD Taicon.
