What Gernot Rohr Said After Super Eagles Fight Back Against Benin

The German tactician was delighted with the way his side showed spirit to claim a comeback 2-1 win over Benin on Wednesday evening at the Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo.

Stephanie Sessegnon scored barely two minutes into the encounter and the Squirrels maintained that lead until moments before the break when Victor Osimhen fired in a penalty kick won by defender Ola Aina.

With the equalizer secured, the Super Eagles cranked the pressure level up until a winner surfaced courtesy of a solo goal from Samuel Kalu.

Gernot Rohr could not hide his pleasure after a pleasing win over a stubborn opponent.

“Benin Republic are good team, we knew what they did in the Afcon but our attitude was good,” Rohr said in a press conference.

“I’m happy with the result, to come back and win. Good to see competitions among the players.”

Rohr did not fail to appreciate the support given to his team by the Akwa Ibom fans throughout the encounter despite his team being behind for half of it.

“We are good everywhere in Nigeria, we had good hospitality in Asaba. But it feels good to be back in Uyo,” he added.

The Super Eagles jumped to the top of Group L with three points from one game after Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a 1-1 draw at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

Nigeria next travel to the Setsoto Stadium to face the Crocodiles of Lesotho in their second match in the qualifiers on Sunday.

What gape d yesterday is a national catastrophe . In 1980, 39 years ago, Nigeria hosted the African cup of Nations, the broadcast was was better than what we experienced yesterday when Nigeria. Played Benin, why are we retrogressing , why are we destroying our own country, why can’t we make any positive impression. We have almost forgotten about the horror called NTA since DSTV came into Nigeria, but we were rudely reminded of the shocking reality that we are still in the same corruption bondage .it is a shame we could not see a good life coverage of our national team . What a national disaster ?
