New Zealand, Netherlands Or Chile? Golden Eaglets Know Round Of 16 Foes Today

Manu Garba’s boys earned their spot in the next round of the FIFA U17 World Cup as Group B leaders despite suffering a surprising 2-1 loss to Australia in the last group match but will later today know who they will face as the tournament rolls into the knockout phase.

Golden Eaglets claimed comeback wins first against Hungary (4-2), then Ecuador (3-2) to earn six points out of a possible nine and will, in the next few hours, be made aware of who their round of 16 opponents will be.

As Group B leaders, the five-time world champions can only meet any of the best third-placed teams from Group A, C or D, reports Soccernet.ng.

At the end of the group games, New Zealand, with 3 points, trailed both hosts Brazil (9 points) and CAF representatives Angola (6 points) in Group A.

While in Group C, Chile ended the standings in third place with just 3 points after being bettered by France (9 points) and Korea Republic (6 points).

And in Group D, Asian giants Japan led the pack on 7 points, followed by another African team Senegal on 6 points to leave the Netherlands stuck on third place with 3 points and the likelihood of squaring up against the tournament’s most successful side, Nigeria.

Golden Eaglets are scheduled to play their Round of 16 match against any of these three sides on Tuesday, 5th November 2019 for a chance to be in the quarterfinals.
