Messi Just Seven Goals Away From Equaling Pele’s Record

Lionel Messi was on target for the second game running as Argentina came back twice to play a 2-2 draw against South American rivals, Uruguay in an international friendly match played at Tel-Aviv.

The Barcelona captain missed La Albicelsete’s September and October’s international matches after he was banned by CONMEBOL for three months due to the comments he made at the COPA America.

He made his return in the game against Brazil where he scored the only goal that saw Argentina edged out their arch-rivals. However, it did not stop there as he scored and provided an assist in the draw against Uruguay on Monday night.

PSG striker, Edinson Cavani opened the scoring for Uruguay but Sergio Aguero levelled matters for Argentina with a header from a Messi freekick.

Luis Suarez restored Uruguay’s lead in the second half with a well-struck freekick but Messi ensured the spoils will be shared as he scored from the spot in added time.

Messi’s goal was his 70th for Argentina making him the second-highest scoring South American in international football. Only Brazil legend, Pele has scored more international goals (77) than Lionel Messi.
