The nominees for the CAF player of the year award was released yesterday with Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Osimhen leading the way for Nigeria.
The Leicester City midfielder and Lille striker alongside Odion Ighalo are the players from the country included in the 30 men shortlist.
The trio was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, while they have been impressive for their clubs this season.
Ndidi has played all but on of Leicester City’s Premier League games this season, while Osimhen is enjoying a brilliant season with Lille in his debut campaign in the French Ligue 1.
Reacting to the nomination, the clubs took to Twitter to congratulate their players respectively. A post from Les Douges social media handle read: Huge CONGRATS to @victorosimhen9 on making the shortlist for African Player of the Year 2019.
Leicester City also posted something similar in congratulating their midfield enforcer, Wilfred Ndidi. The Foxes also congratulated the 22-year-old after making his 100th appearance for the team in last weekend’s win over Brighton Hove and Albion.
The winner of the prestigious award will be announced Tuesday, January 7, 2020, in Hurghada, Egypt.
