Kenneth Omeruo Solid In Leganes Draw At Sociedad, Ahead Of Barcelona Tie

The Nigeria international was at his impressive best to help La Liga’s bottom club earn a precious 1-1 draw at highflying Real Sociedad on Friday night to move a point closer to safety in the relegation battle.

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo played all the 90 minutes and was solid as a rock as Javier Aguirre’s men showed some defensive solidity in limiting the home side to a few scoring chances to pick a valuable away point against one of La Liga’s finest attacking side.

Mexican coach Aguirre, appointed only on Monday after Leganes’ ugly start to the season, would be delighted with the way his men battled back from going behind at a difficult ground.

Substitute Youssef En-Nesryi grabbed the all important equalizer for the struggling away team to rescue Leganes from defeat after a Mikel Merino opener in the 78th minute.

The Morocco international’s impact off the bench was vital, as he made the breakthrough minutes after replacing Jose Arnaiz at the Anoeta Stadium.

It was the 22-year-old’s second goal of the season.

The draw at the Anoeta Stadium increased Leganes’ tally to six points after 13 games and coach Javier Aguirre will hope it could help kickstart a revival of fortunes for his men.

Unfortunately, Nigeria’s centre-back Kenneth Omeruo picked up a yellow card late on in the game for his troubles.

Omeruo’s compatriot and Super Eagles’ fullback Chidozie Awaziem was an unused substitute in the encounter.

Both Nigerian stars would however hope to be actively involved after the international break when the Cucumber Growers’ host champions Barcelona at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
