Good News For Benin: Super Eagles Goalscoring Midfielder Unlikely To Start Against Squirrels

As Gernot Rohr’s men put finishing touches to their preparations ahead of their crunch tie against the Squirrels tomorrow (Wednesday), reports emerging from the Super Eagles camp indicate that a key midfielder is set to miss out.

Rangers of Scotland midfielder Joe Aribo will not make the Super Eagles starting eleven that will face Benin at the Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo, according to reliable sources from the team’s camp.

In news that should greatly delight the opposition, the 23-year-old goalscoring midfielder is set to miss out on the final cut having only arrived to the Eagles camp on Tuesday morning, a day to the crunch tie. Aribo is reportedly going to join the team’s training session this evening (Tuesday) for the first time.

The former Charlton Athletic playmaker made his debut for the Nigeria national team in September, scoring in a 2-2 draw versus Ukraine. Aribo then grabbed another fine goal in his second appearance for Gernot Rohr’s side in a 1-1 draw against former world champions Brazil.

Fans have been looking forward to seeing the Gers’ star, who scored the opener in Rangers 2-0 victory at Livingstone over the weekend, make his competitive debut for his fatherland but that wait will have to continue for a while longer.

Nigeria play Lesotho four days after the Benin tie.
