Gernot Rohr Warns Super Eagles Against Complacency When Lesotho’s Crocodiles Come To Play

The German tactician has charged his men to take the match with all the seriousness it requires when they set up to face Lesotho later on Sunday afternoon.

Group L leaders, Nigeria, take on Lesotho on match day 2 of the 2021 AFCON qualifying series scheduled for the Setsoto Stadium in Maseru, capital of the tiny, landlocked South African nation.

The Super Eagles are the clear favourites against a team ranked 103 places below them by FIFA and are looking to make it two wins out of two after seeing off the challenge of Benin on Wednesday with a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Gernot Rohr, who oversaw a credible 1-1 draw against five-time world champions Brazil last month, is however urging caution when his men trade tackles against a team that had tasted just one defeat in their last five games.

”I am calm because they (the Super Eagles) played well in the second half against Benin, but you never know in the next match (against Lesotho), they must stay humble,” the former Gabon coach warned at the press conference ahead of the match.

”Like I told them after the Brazil game, don’t believe you are the best team in Africa because you held Brazil to a draw, there’s still a lot of work to do.

”I am not excited, I’ll be excited if we win the AFCON for example.”

Lesotho are second in Group L having secured a decent 1-1 draw away to Sierra Leone on match day 1 and will leapfrog Nigeria into first spot with a win, a situation Rohr and his men would be desperate to avoid.
