Former Super Eagles Star Peter Odemwingie Set To Launch Career In Another Sport

He made his name as a footballer, featuring for the likes of Lille, West Brom, QPR, Locomotiv Moscow, but Peter Odemwingie is set to test himself in the waters of another sport.

The former Nigerian international who announced his retirement from football in April have enrolled in Professional Golf Association (PGA) program as he attempts to become a professional golfer.

Odemwingie is a massive fan of the golf sport and even plays it as a recreational sport. However, the 38-year-old now wants to take it up a notch by playing it professionally.

The former Stoke City star took to his official Twitter handle to announce he has enrolled in PGA’s training program as he plans to play the game professionally.

According to express & Star, Odemwingie will team up with West Brom supporter and teaching professional, Jak Hamblett in his bid to become a professional golfer.

According to Hamblett, Odemwingie turned to golf in a bid to give something back to the local community.

“I have known Peter for a couple of years now,” he said. I’ve always had a knack for the short game, I played a bunker shot in a pro-am with Pete and he said: ‘You have to teach me how to do that’.

“The rest, as they, say is history. He had a couple of lessons, got more and more interested in the coaching side of the game and now he wants to go professional.

“He wants to learn how to be a PGA coach and has chosen me to be his mentor which is remarkable really. Odemwingie played 63 times for the Super Eagles, scoring 10 times. He announced his retirement in April having played in Russia, France and England.
