He may have been considered not good enough for the Seagulls first team, however, he shone brightly despite Brighton’s U-23 loss against West Ham in the opening fixture of the Premier League International Cup.
Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, who is yet to taste action in the 2019/2020 Premier League season, was in the starting line up of Brighton’s Under 23 side as the team lost 3-1 to West Ham on Thursday.
The Nigerian international was among the three senior players such as Alireza Jakhanbaksh and Tudor Baluta that featured in that encounter and received rave review from Brighton and Hove Albion under-23 coach Simon Rusk.
“I thought we played some good football and probably should’ve been out of sight in the first half an hour- we have to score the chances we created.
“They played very well after the break and the truth is that we didn’t, the match got away from us for 25 minutes from that point, so it’s a learning curve.
“The first team staff wanted to utilize the opportunity to give minutes to all three and it’s always great to have the senior boys around the group.”
Balogun will be hoping his performance against West Ham will give him a chance when the senior team travel to Liverpool on Saturday.
