Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets claimed a morale boosting 4-2 win over South Korea in one of their pre-tournament tune up games in Brazil, leaving the handlers of their opponents impressed with their speed and skill.
Many Garba’s boys bounced back from an initial 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Sao Paolo just hours after landing in Brazil to earn their first victory in the South American country ahead of the commencement of the FIFA U17 World Cup.
A brace from young Nigeria forward Olakunle Olusegun – who is doing his burgeoning reputation no harm – and one goal each for Divine Nwachukwu and Charles Etim was all the Africans needed to overcome the Asian giants.
South Korea U17 boss Kim Jung-soo, who saw his team surrender an early 2-1 lead to concede three quick goals in the second half, was full of praise for the impressive Golden Eaglets.
Coach Jung-soo admitted that his young side faced a better opposition in the five-time world champions, revealing that the pace and raw talent of coach Garba’s lad caused his team a few problems.
Speaking through an interpreter, Jung-soo said after the friendly that was monitored by Soccernet.ng: ”We are actually happy that we have the problems that we can solve until the start of the tournament, so we have like ten days left to solve the problems.
”The Nigeria team is one of the best teams in U17 tournaments. I watched some of their match videos and they are very skillful and speedy”.
Nigeria next meet Japan in another friendly match before kickstarting their campaign for a record-extending sixth title in Brazil against Hungary on October 26.
