The London-born midfielder has finally revealed how he was overtaken by emotions after scoring for the Super Eagles against the Selecao during an international friendly match played at the Singapore National Stadium on October 13.
Joe Aribo has described the goal he scored for Nigeria against a Neymar-inspired Brazil as one of the best footballing moments of his career, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Charlton Athletic star scored on his international debut when Nigeria fought out a 2-2 draw against Ukraine in September. Aribo then followed that up with a fine strike in the 35th minute of the encounter with Brazil, handling the West Africans a precious lead against the five-time world champions.
Although, the Super Eagles could not hold on for the win – Casemiro popped up in the second half to smash home an equalizer – but Aribo is still savouring a delightful goal that will live long in the memory.
“I am just thankful to God that I am able to be playing again and I just want to keep performing and keep playing as well as I can”, Aribo told Rangers TV goal for Nigeria.
“It was a wonderful feeling, one of the highest I have had in football and I am just happy I was able to be out there and be playing.
“I want to just keep improving now.”
The Gers star has earned two caps for Nigeria and, after scoring two goals in the colours of the country, is seen as the long term replacement for John Mikel Obi who retired after the AFCON tournament in Egypt earlier in the year.
