Following a long wait, the international future of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori is now settled after they were called up by Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
Prior to their call ups, the international future of the Chelsea duo have been a subject of debate with England and Nigeria battling it out for their services.
However, that has now been put to rest following their call-up, and Tammy Abraham who already had two caps for the Three Lions but not in a competitive fixture has reacted to the news.
The Chelsea No 9 took to Twitter to express his delight at the call-up, while he also congratulated other Blues stars that were invited.
Meanwhile, England manager, Gareth Southgate insists his decision to call up Abraham and Tomori has nothing to do with Nigeria. The former Middlesbrough star said the Chelsea players were invited because of their performances this season.
“I don’t think it is ethically right to give someone a cap just to make sure they can’t play for someone else. Both Fik (Tomori) and Abraham are in on merit.”
