Leicester City manager reveals lessons Wilfred Ndidi, mates must learn from Liverpool defeat

Liverpool earned and converted a late, late penalty at Anfield to condemn Brendan Rodgers and his men to a 2-1 defeat on Saturday but the Northern Irishman is bullish about his team’s prospects going forward.

Wilfred Ndidi saw action for the full 90 minutes but could not stop Liverpool from running away with all three points as Leicester succumbed to a heartbreaking James Milner penalty late on.

Just days after smashing five past Newcastle – Ndidi scored the last of those – highflying Leicester City were brought back down to earth by a Sadio Mane strike just before halftime and a James Milner spotkick either side of a James Madison equalizer but manager Brendan Rodgers is backing his side to learn from the narrow loss.

“We’re obviously frustrated,” Rodgers told LCFC TV as observed by Soccernet.ng.

“We’ve come to compete against a top-class team who are the European champions and you can see why, but I was very proud of the team today, we played with real personality in the game.

“In the moments we had to defend we coped with that pressure well and then when we could play we broke through their pressure and looked a real threat.

“We showed our great mentality to come back into the game in the second half, get the equalising goal and it looked like we could be the team that could go on and win, so to concede in the 95th minute is obviously disappointing.

“But there are a lot of positives to take and, like I said, we’ll learn from it.”

“I thought that there are areas we need to be better in. I think that at times in the second half we gave the ball away more than we would like not under great pressure.

“It’s something that this team will improve on, it’s finding the personality to play against these teams in their own stadiums and the players showed that in real abundance today.”
