No Friendly Affairs Against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Says Ukraine Midfielder

Ukraine winger, Andriy Yarmolenko, says tonight’s game against Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the Dnipro Arena won’t be played as if it’s a friendly international clash.

The West Ham star stated this in a chat with UA Football, where he assured that Ukraine would approach the encounter with all sense of seriousness against the Super Eagles.

Both teams will be meeting for the first time and will be using the encounter as a build-up to their respective qualifiers (Euro 2020 and 2021 AFCON qualifier).

Yarmolenko said:  ”I want to win, of course. It seems to me that if you come to a national team, then there is no division of matches into official and friendly.

”So, if this, for example, is a game between the national team and the youth, then we can talk about friendly status but international meetings at the level of national teams, in my opinion, cannot be considered friendly.

”When the full stadium arrives, when the fans create a special atmosphere and drive you forward, you always want to win”.

Meanwhile, Ukraine are top of Euro 2020 group B qualifier that have Portugal, Serbia, Lithuania, and Luxemburg with 13 points. The team will face Lithuania next in the qualifier on October 11.
