Nigeria stars Okereke, Dennis and Club Brugge set to pile pressure on Zidane’s Real Madrid

The UEFA Champions League returns with Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid set to face a stern challenge from an in-form Club Brugge, knowing that only maximum points will do.

A fortnight ago, Real suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss away to PSG to kick off their campaign on a sour note but Los Blancos are now presented with another chance to show their class at home against the Belgians.

Club Brugge however, will not be travelling to Madrid just to lie down and be smacked. Unlike Real, Brugge are undefeated in all competitions this season, drawing their opening Champions League game with Galatasaray. This leaves them on an impressive 14-game unbeaten run.

In the ranks of the Belgians are two Nigeria stars, Okereke and Emmanuel Dennis, who have the pace to trouble Real’s inconsistent defence. If Club Brugge are to take anything from this game, it could be down to their Nigerian attacking duo.

Team News

Real Madrid

Sergio Ramos and Nacho are available for Paris Saint-Germain after missing Real Madrid’s first group game through suspension.

Madrid have plenty of injury concerns heading into Tuesday’s match against Club Brugge with question marks surrounding up to five players.

Luka Modric returned from injury in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid and will provide competition with James Rodriguez for a starting berth.

Nacho may be required at left-back with Marcelo and Ferland Mendy potentially set to miss out on Tuesday.

Club Brugge

Eder Balanta and Federico Ricca, both of  whom were strong contenders to start, are set to miss out for Club Brugge on Tuesday night.

Match Facts

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 32 of Real Madrid’s last 35 games (UEFA Champions League).

Club Brugge have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 8 matches (UEFA Champions League).

Club Brugge are undefeated in their last 9 matches (UEFA Champions League).

Real have also managed to keep just one clean sheet in their last 9 home games in the Champions League.

Both of these sides are yet to score in this season’s competition.

Prediction

Madrid cannot afford to underestimate their opponents on Tuesday knowing fully well that anything other than three points will heap further pressure on Zidane, with Jose Mourinho waiting in the wings to takeover.

Tip: Real Madrid to win and over 3 goals.
