Mainland has won the fourth edition of the Comedians Football Face-Off. The event which was held at Legacy pitch, National Stadium Surulere, on August 29th, saw popular comedians in the country swapped the mic for the boots.
At the end of the occasion, comedians from Mainland took home the trophy after they beat Festac and environs comedians in the final match.
In the semi-final matches, Mainland defeated Island comedians while Festac and environs comedians beat Ikorodu boys by three goals to nil.
The Mainland boys were captained and coached by Omo Baba while Akpororo captained the comedians from Festac. Other popular comedians that graced the event include, Peteru, Odogwu, Bellodkoreb among many others.
Speaking at the event, one of the main organizers of the show, comedian Calibird revealed how the event has been getting bigger every year.
“We want to thank God, this is the fourth edition and it has been glorious. Every year it keeps getting better. This year we have Vsqit and we also have Soccernet the media partner. Other people also sponsored and I am so happy.” Hypo is around, Power Oil, we thank God.
He also revealed the purpose of the event is to show that Nigerian comedians are not just good with their mouths but also with their legs.
“It’s just basically saying comedians can play ball toom with a day set aside to enjoy ourselves and connect, know our friends, network, exercise and meet fellow comedians.” The next edition of the event will hold in 2020 at a date that will be revealed later.
