Vincent Enyeama or Peter Rufai? Finidi or Amokachi?: Nigeria’s AFCON bronze medalist reveals his Super Eagles Greatest XI

Vincent Enyeama over Peter Rufai? Joseph Yobo? Yes! Taribo West? No. Surprises all over the park as Nigeria international John Ogu reveals his greatest Super Eagles XI of all time.

The versatile midfielder has no room for two former Africa Player of the Year award winners, Emmanuel Amuneke and Victor Ikpeba, while he also ignored George Finidi in his list.

In goal, the former Israel-based player preferred 2013 AFCON winner Vincent Enyeama to 1994 AFCON champion Peter Rufai.

Ogu’s four-man defensive wall comprises ex-Chelsea man Celestine Babayaro, Super Eagles record appearance holder Joseph Yobo, gentle giant Uche Okechukwu and the only Nigerian to win the AFCON championship both as a player and a coach, the late Stephen Keshi.

In the middle of the park: the mercurial Austin Okocha, newly-retired captain John Obi Mikel, former Juventus enforcer Sunday Oliseh and one-time Everton star Daniel Amokachi were favoured over every other midfielder to have ever worn the green and white.

Record goalscorer late Rashidi Yekini is set alongside 1996 Olympic Games hero Nwankwo ‘Papilo’ Kanu in an attacking pairing that would definitely score loads of goals.

John Ogu made his submissions while being a guest at the Metro FM 97.7 radio station.

The 2019 AFCON bronze medalist is still in search of a club after calling an end to a successful career with Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
