Sergio Aguero was delightfully surprised when it was revealed to him that he had hit a career milestone in Manchester City’s highly entertaining 3-1 win over Bournemounth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
The Argentina international scored a brace against Eddie Howe’s men, one in each half, the first to give the Citizens the lead and the second to seal the win after scores stood at 2-1.
The two goals scored means that the former Atletico Madrid striker has now scored 400 career goals, incredibly lifting him into the elite group of active players – David Villa, Luis Suarez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – who have hit that mark.
When the milestone was revealed to him after the match, Aguero was delighted and surprised almost in equal measure.
“All the goals are important, I do not have a favourite. 400 goals – wow I did not know that. The goals are always important, you need them to win,” Aguero told BBC Sports as monitored by Soccernet.ng
Speaking further about the match after Harry Wilson scored a fantastic free kick to drag the home side back into the tie just before half time, the Manchester City striker said, “It was difficult but we knew we had to win. I am happy because this pitch is hard but we are happy we got the win.”
