Sadio Mane in, Mahrez out as UEFA nominates Best Player

UEFA have announced the nominees for this year’s best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward on Thursday, with Sadio Mane joining Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best attackers on the continent.

Liverpool, winners of the Champions League, have the highest number of nominees with four other players aside the Senegal international.

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool); Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax, now Juventus); Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Midfielders: Frenkie de Jong (Ajax, now Barcelona); Christian Eriksen (Tottenham); Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Forwards: Sadio Mane (Liverpool); Lionel Messi (Barcelona); Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)
