Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton in Saturday’s Premier League clash at St Mary’s Stadium.
Daniel James opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the 10th minute before Jannik Vestergaard’s header leveled score for Southampton in the 58th minute.
Soccernet.ng X-ray the performance of the Man United players against Southampton.
David de Gea – Was hardly tested not until in the 58th minute when he failed to prevent Jannik Vestergaard’s header from going into the back of the net. 5
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Displayed another mind-blowing performance as he kept Southampton’s Sofiane Boufal quite in most part of the game. 6.5
Victor Lindelof – Not really a convincing defending from the Dennish defender as he struggled with pace and was a culprit in Southampton’s equaliser in the second half. 5
Harry Maguire – The Englishman’s passing into midfield towards the start was crucial to United’s early dominance, and his basic defending was solid as usual, but the useful work on the ball halted as the game went on.
Ashley Young – Started the game solidly, winning anything near him, but found himself caught out of position too often in the second half.
Scott McTominay – One of United’s better players, displaying good urgency in the middle and laying on the assist for Daniel James. Could have been more positive with his passing.
Paul Pogba – Failed to control the heart of the midfield as he failed to cope with the pace of the game and lack precise passes. 5
Andreas Pereira – Quietly went about his business well, pressing hard from a midfield position, but was largely ineffectual with the ball. 6
Daniel James – An outstanding young talent who is beginning to prove his worth in the colours of the Red Devils as he netted for the umpteenth time for Manchester United. 8
Juan Mata – started the game very brightly, creating chances with clever little passes, only to fade as the game went on. 5
Marcus Rashford – Genuinely one of the worst performances from Rashford in a United shirt. The ball appeared to bounce off him whenever it touched his boot, and his presence in the box as a goalscorer was nonexistent, which in turn handed impetus to the home side. 5
