Premier League Team Of The Week: Hattrick Hero, Teemu Pukki, Sadio Mane, And Dani Ceballos In, But Ndidi Misses Out

The second week of the English Premier League (EPL) brought lots of excitement and shock results, most especially Man City’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham, Norwich’s 3-1 win over Newcastle and Leicester City’s impressive 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Most importantly, Norwich striker, Teemu Pukki stole the show with his incredible hat-trick against Newcastle on Saturday.

Soccernet picks players that made the Premier League player of the week.

Goalkeeper

Nick Pope (Burnley) – Back in the team after Tom Heaton’s sale, he impressed with a string of saves against Arsenal. No chance with the goals.

Defenders

George Baldock (Sheffield United) – Kept Wilfried Zaha quiet as United kept a first clean sheet since promotion to earn a first victory in the top flight since 2007.

Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester) – Ensured the sold Harry Maguire was not missed with a defiant display at the back as Leicester drew at Stamford Bridge.

Steve Cook (Bournemouth) – Part of the defence, left with Callum Wilson, who withstood a Villa onslaught to make sure Bournemouth held on to their first-half lead.

Lucas Digne (Everton) – Played the pass for Bernard’s goal and also helped Everton record a 10th clean sheet in 13 games. It is a terrific record.

Midfielders

Leandro Trossard (Brighton) – An auspicious first start. Even after having one goal disallowed, the Belgian showed character and skill to score another.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City) – The best player on the pitch against Tottenham. His outstanding crossing led to both of City’s goals.

Dani Ceballos (Arsenal) – Showed class and creativity with his tricks and passing on a terrific full debut. Looks a  superb signing for Arsenal.

Harry Wilson (Bournemouth) – A specialist at long-range goals opened his Bournemouth account in typical fashion with a spectacular strike against Aston Villa.

Strikers

Teemu Pukki (Norwich) – The Championship’s top scorer last year illustrated he can prosper in the Premier League with a brilliant hat-trick, including a terrific volley

Sadio Mane (Liverpool) – Had a happy homecoming at his old club Southampton, scoring one goal, making another and fashioning a series of chances.
