Pep Guardiola declines credit for Man City’s 4-0 romp over Brighton

The Spaniard watched from the sidelines as his charges meted out a masterclass in football artistry to hapless Brighton side but he afterwards refused to take the credit for such a wonderful performance.

Goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and a Sergio Aguero brace lifted the Citizens momentarily above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table in a performance that should delight any manager of the beautiful game.

But even in the euphoria of the fine win, Guardiola as maintained a clear head to accord all credit to the players who got the job done on the field.

“We started well. We give a lot of credit to the Brighton for what they did. They had chances but we were more clinical than we were in the Tottenham game. They defend so well,” the Manchester City boss told Sky Sports as monitored by Soccernet.ng

“The difference was the quality of the players. Sometimes we credit the manager for success and sometimes it is the quality of the players and today is proof of that.”

Kevin de Bruyne scored City’s first within minutes of kick off and his manager has nothing but praise for the Belgian midfielder.

“Last season he struggled with his physical condition and injuries but we are happy now. He is a player who always gives you vision.”

Liverpool take on Burnley immediately after and could return to displace Man Ciry at the top of the league with a victory.
