Patrick Van Aanholt’s Late Goal Ensure Crystal Palace Silence Man United At Old Trafford

Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the season as the Red Devils narrowly lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in Saturday’s Premier League clash, thanks to Patrick Van Aanholt’s late goal.

Jordan Ayew’s goal in the 32nd minute gave the visitor the much-needed lead in the first half. The goal ended the Eagles’ abysmal 39-year run without a lead at Old Trafford, with David Swindlehurst last managing the feat in 1979.

United suffered early heartbreak when Luke Shaw was substituted after copping what’s suspected to be a hamstring injury. He was replaced by Ashley Young in the 34th minute for his first game of the season.

However, Manchester United was denied a pretty obvious penalty as neither the referee nor VAR flagged it up.

United kept the pressure on Palace defence but poor finishing in front of goal denied them the chance to level score.

The host also had another goal-scoring chance as Scott McTominay’s shot was blocked by Palace defenders. Some few minutes later, Paul Pogba’s header failed to hit the back of the net as his header went off the goal post.

Man United’s continuous pressure paid off in the 88th minute as Daniel James grabbed the equalizer to the delight of team manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the vociferous home supporters.

With few minutes to end the game, Crystal Palace defender, Patrick Van Aanholt scored the winning goal that broke United’s heart at Old Trafford, to earn the visitor the maximum points.
