Exclusive: Mutiu Adepoju Challenges Chukwueze And Other Super Eagles Stars In La Liga

Ex-international Mutiu Adepoju has challenged Super Eagles stars plying their trades in La Liga to keep on improving. The former Real Sociedad star said this in an exclusive interview with Soccernet.ng.

The Super Eagles are well represented in La Liga with Villareal’s Chukwueze the leading star of Nigerians plying their trade in the Spanish topflight. Other Super Eagles stars playing in Spain’s top division include Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie who both play for Leganes, while former Flying Eagles captain, Ramon Azeez plays at Granada.

When asked on what he expects from the quartet this season, Adepoju said, he wants them to continue improving. ”

Well, my expectation will be for Nigerian players and African players to continue improving. This year we have four Nigerian players, Kenneth Omeruo in Leganes and Awaziem both of them in Leganes, and we have Ramon Azeez in Granada and Chukwueze, he told Soccernet.ng

He also added that their success in the league will create opportunities for other Nigerian players to play in Spain.  “So my expectation for them is continue improving, so that it can give them more opportunity and clubs will be looking at other Nigerian players, and bring them to La Liga. I expect them to do very well so that we can have opportunity of inviting more players in Nigeria to La Liga.”

Meanwhile, Guillermo Perez Castello, the La Liga delegate to Nigeria, has said he expects Spanish teams to take back their mantle in European competitions this season.  He said this in an interview with Soccernet.ng

English teams were the dominant force last season with Liverpool winning the Champions League while Chelsea won the Europa League. However, Guillermo expects Spanish teams to dominate again this season.

“Well hopefully, as you said, the English teams did really well last season and we had o congratulate them.” And as I said, the important thing is the trend in the last ten years is that we perform really well in international competitions, and what do we expect for this season is getting back to that trend, he told Soccernet.ng

“Being able to play finals again and win trophies. I think we have very strong teams. You know Atletico has new signings that are amazing. Joao Felix, for example, has done a preseason that is incredible, He added.

“I really believe Atletico Madrid is going to be there, Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane will be there, Barcelona as always will be there, but also Sevilla, Valencia, and you know after a long time, they were able to qualify for two straight seasons for champions league. I really expect it is going to be a good season for our teams in international competitions.
