Buhari’s Government Backs Nigeria’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Bid

The Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo has revealed the current administration is ready to throw its weight behind Nigeria’s bid to host the FIFA U-20 women’s world cup.

The world football governing body are considering giving the hosting rights to the country and they were in Nigeria to inspect if the country has the facilities to host the biennial tournament.

Many Nigerians from different quarters have criticized the decision of the NFF to put the country forward as hosts, saying the state of the country’s economy does not allow that.

However, Vice President debunked that, saying the Federal Government is ready to back the nation’s bid host the tournament next year.

He said this while receiving members of the NFF and FIFA who paid him a visit at the Presidential Villa. “The Government of Nigeria guarantees to back the bid 100 per cent. W

e are actually excited with the prospect of hosting the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2020. For us, football is a unifying force. Government interest in hosting is beyond commercial; football is a measure of unity and well –being of our people as diverse as we are.”

He also revealed the Government will make sure everything is put in place to ensure a successful tournament.  Four Nigerian cities have been pencilled down to be the host venues if rights are awarded to the country.

They are Lagos, Benin, Asaba and Uyo. The FIFA inspection teams visited these states and also met with the Governors in the process.
