Bad News For Liverpool Ahead Of Clash Against Southampton

Liverpool have suffered a huge blow ahead of their trip to the South Coast where they will take on Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium in a Premier League clash on Saturday.

The Reds will head into the encounter with the possibility of not having their first two choice goalkeepers available after Adrian was declared a doubt for the match.

The former West Ham goalkeeper who was signed as a replacement for Mignolet and a backup for Alisson Becker picked up an injury in the Reds Super Cup victory against Chelsea last Wednesday.

According to Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, Adrian picked up the injury after a fan injured him during the Cup celebrations.

“It would help him a lot if it would be 100 per cent clear he can play tomorrow.

“I really don’t understand it why, in the world of social media where you are all on it, when we were all together a supporter jumped over something, was chased by some security guys, slipped and kicked [Adrian’s] ankle. Crazy.

“Yesterday it was swollen. Today I spoke to him and he said it is better, much better than yesterday, but we have to see.

“Apart from that, yes, it was a brilliant night for him, for sure – not only because of the penalty [save], but especially because of the game. I think he saved the penalty and was in the mood he was in during the penalty shootout because of the game he’d played before. “So, that was all good, but now we have to see.”

“He will not go for a scan. We wait for the swelling to go down. It went down already. You can imagine, you have that and then you fly four hours back and that doesn’t help swelling.

“He could not have played directly after we landed in Liverpool, but I saw him now, he is OK and it looks better, but the decision will be made tomorrow – there is no chance to make it early.”

If Adrian misses the trip to the South Coast, it means Liverpool will be without their first two goalkeepers. The team’s first choice,  Alisson Becker has been ruled out for four to six weeks after picking up an injury in the team’s opening league game against Norwich.  That leaves Andy Lonergan as the man to come in should Adrian miss out tomorrow.
