Ex- Nigerian international, Waidi Akanni has warned the Super Eagles players and the technical crew not to underestimate the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
Nigeria defeated the reigning champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a pulsating round of 16 encounter while South Africa shocked host Egypt same day.
Having met the Madiba boys in the qualifying series where the team lost 2-0 in Nigeria before playing out a 1-1 draw in Jo’Burge, Akanni in a chat with Soccernet.ng advised Gernot Rohr’s coaching crew to utilise their chances and take South Africa to the cleaners.
“I am quite confident that the Super Eagles will overcome South Africa in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations. However, the team must avoid any form of complacency regardless of the fact that they defeated reigning champions, Cameroon on Saturday.
“If South Africa can defeat Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium, then, they can overcome any team at the tournament. It takes a team with a strong mentality to edge out a Pharoahs side that has Mo Salah.
“I expect a very tough encounter considering the fact that we met them at the qualifying series and lost 2-0 before holding them at home. Nevertheless, I just want the Super Eagles to make it through to the semi-final.
