Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo says he will prefer to win the Africa Cup of Nations than clinching the golden boot award.
Having scored three goals at the tournament, Ighalo is currently the joint top scorer alongside Senegal star Sadio Mane and Algeria’s Ounas. But the China-based star told Japan Times that he’s not thinking of personal glory.
Recall that Ighalo netted his first goal against Burundi when he came off from the bench for Onuachi to net the only goal of the encounter. He also scored two goals against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 on Saturday.
However, he’s reiterated his commitment on working for the team victory against South Africa in the quarter-final than aiming to win the golden boot award.
“If I don’t win Golden Boot but win the trophy I’d be very happy because we are here to do that,” Ighalo said ahead of Wednesday’s clash against South Africa in Cairo.
“I didn’t say I’m not interested, but we are here as a team and want to try and win it as a team. I’m a striker I want to score goals, but if they don’t come and we win the game I will be more satisfied.”
