Exclusive: Cameroon Can’t Stop Nigeria’s AFCON Dream, Says Adepoju

Ex-Super Eagles international, Mutiu Adepoju believes the Super Eagles have what it takes to overcome the reigning champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Saturday’s round of 16 clash.

The three-time Africa Champions qualified in second place in group B to face Cameroon that also finished second in group F. Although Nigeria lead the head to head, Cameroon have the edge in the Africa Cup of Nations having beaten the Super Eagles three times before.

The Super Eagles also go into the match on the back of a disappointing 2-0 loss to Madagascar in their last group match and that has led to critics questioning their readiness for the huge encounter against the five-time African champions.

However, the headmaster, as he was fondly called in his playing days, told Soccernet.ng that the team would have learnt from their mistakes against Madagascar and would be eager to redeem their image.

Adepoju also warned the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr to play Nigeria’s best players and avoid sentiment in his selection.

“To be candid, I was not really happy when the Super Eagles lost to Madagascar in their last group B fixture.

“But I want to believe the players and technical crew must have learned from their mistakes and be willing to deliver against a Cameroonian side that also managed just two goals.

“Well, I am confident Nigeria has what it takes to defeat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon if they play as a team.
