Aftermath of Loss to Super Eagles: Cameroon Coach Seedorf, Kluivert Sacked

Cameroon have relieved the two Dutch legends from their posts as coach and assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions.

Former Real Madrid midfielder, Clarence Seedorf has been sacked as coach of the Lions by the Federation of Cameroon Football (FECAFOOT) after failing to help them defend their Africa Cup of Nations crown.

His assistant Patrick Kluivert, also a former Netherlands international, have been shown the exit door as well.

Both Seedorf and Kluivert spent less than a year in their respective roles.

Cameroon won the 2017 edition of the Afcon and hired the former Ajax star to help retain the trophy.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles however knocked out the defending champions in the second round of the competition with a come-from- behind 3 – 2 win.

The 43-year-old former AC Milan player thereafter maintained that he was happy to continue in his role despite calls from different quarters asking him to step aside.

But a statement made available to the public reads, “following the premature exit of Cameroon’s men’s flagship squad, Cameroon’s football federation in line with clauses in their respective contracts has decided to bring an end to the contracts of Seedorf and Kluivert.”

Under Seedorf’s guidance the Indomitable Lions played 13 games, recorded 4 wins, managed 5 draws and suffered 4 defeats.
