AFCON 2019: Alex Iwobi reveals the toughest team Super Eagles faced

Nigeria picked up the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations after beating the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia but the Arsenal forward insists that game is not the toughest his team faced at the tournament.

Odion Ighalo’s third minute strike was enough to hand victory to the Super Eagles over Tunisia, Wednesday, bringing down the curtain on the two team’s tournament.

Alex Iwobi, speaking to Caf media after the game revealed the opponent that gave the Eagles their biggest challenge.

“It’s difficult to say, because of the quality even in the group stage against Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar.

“The toughest one was trying to overcome the team that knocked us out, Algeria. Maybe it was against them because we weren’t able to win.”

In the semifinal, Nigeria lost agait the Algerians for the first time since 1990.

But the Super Eagles dusted themselves up to defeat the Carthage Eagles to claim the consolation bronze medal.

The Arsenal midfielder thereafter expressed how valuable the medal means.

“It is a great achievement considering the quality of the 24 teams, especially as our team is very young,” Iwobi told Caf media.

“We’re happy with this medal, hopefully, we can do better in the next Africa Cup of Nations.”

“Thanks to the fans for their support, we will always make them proud because of the support that they give us.”
