Chelsea escaped a late scare to book a semi berth in the Europa League as the Blues defeated Slavia Prague 4-3 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday in the quarter-final second leg.
Pedro Rodriguez opened the floodgate of goals in the 5th minutes before Simon Deli and Olivier Giroud extended Chelsea’s lead to 3-0.
However, a moment of complacency saw Slavia Prague reduced the deficit thanks to Tomas Soucek’s goal in the 26th minutes before Pedro Rodriguez netted his brace in the 27th minutes.
When many thought the game was over, Slavia Prague almost produced a comeback as Petr Sevcik scored his second goal of the night and netted again in the 54th minutes to put Chelsea in a very tight corner.
All efforts to equalize and score the vital goal proved abortive as the Blues booked a place in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Arsenal pipped Napoli 1-0 in Naples thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in the 36th minutes in the second leg quarter-final of the Europa League on Thursday.
The Gunners qualified to the semi-final on 3-0 aggregate.
