Nigerian striker explains why he left Arsenal

PAOK FC forward, Chuba Akpom has revealed why he left Arsenal football club last year.

Speaking to BBC, the 23-year-old said after speaking with Arsenal’s manager, Unai Emery, it was clear he didn’t have a spot on the team.

“I spoke to Unai Emery. He just said that there’s a lot of strikers and it would be hard for him to give me game time, which I respected,” Akpom told BBC.

“You have to remember I’m an Arsenal fan, I’d spent most of my life at the club, I watch all their matches on television out here.

He further explained that although it was a tough decision for him to leave a club he had been with for most of his life, he needed to move to a club where he’ll get enough playing time.

“Of course it was hard to leave, but I needed first-team football.

“Joining PAOK has given me a new life experience and we’ve got a great chance of doing something special this season.”

Since joining PAOK, Akpom has scored 5 goals from 17 appearances.
