Rangers FC beat Kano Pillars 4-2 on penalties, lift Aiteo Cup after 35 years

Rangers FC of Enugu came back from a 3-0 down to overcome Kano Pillars 4-2 via a penalty shoot-out to be crown champions of the 2018 Aiteo Cup on Wednesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.

Kano Pillars opened the scoring through Rabiu Ali before Ibrahim Alassan and Nymar Nwagua took the game beyond the Flying Antelopes.

However, with 15 minutes left to play, Rangers FC began the biggest comeback in the history of the competition as they reduced the scoreline to 3-1 thanks to Kelvin Itoya’s goal before Chidera Eze and Ajani Ibrahim levelled the result to 3-3.

The Flying Antelopes will go on to convert four of their kicks with Loute sealing a fantastic win for Rangers, who have come to be known as the comeback kings at this year’s Aiteo Cup.

The victory also means that Rangers FC are guaranteed a 2019 CAF Confederation Cup ticket.
