Can Enyimba win $1.25m CAF prize

Nigeria’s flagbearer in the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba International, are three matches away from winning the mouth-watering $1.25million prize after overcoming Rayon Sports of Rwanda 5-1 on Sunday at the Aba International Stadium.

The Peoples Elephants, who last won a continental trophy in 2003 and 2004, could be hunting for another laurel in their refurbished stadium, that’s expected to bring the team good luck as they enter the crucial stages of the tournament.

After managing a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Kigali, a fortnight ago, there were concerns the team may be knocked out based on the away goal rule, most especially if the game ends in a 1-1 draw or 2-2 draw.

However, such permutation never came to reality as the Aba Millionaires, as the players of the club are fondly called by football supporters, annihilated Rayon Sports to book a place in the semi-finals.

The prospect of the team making it through to the final of the CAF tournament seem bright regardless of the fact that Enyimba will be playing North Africa side, Raja Casablanca, on October 3 for the first leg in Aba.

Interestingly, Enyimba will be hosting the first leg in Nigeria and this gives the team the opportunity to repeat such attacking force that saw them whip Rayon Sports ‘silly’ against a Raja Casablanca side that will be hoping to strike from the counter.
