New Tanzania head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke will be hoping to begin his coaching reign on a winning note as he faces Uganda in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 8 in Kampala.
The former Golden Eaglets coach who led the team to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile was named the Taifas Stars new coach on a two-year deal on Monday by the Tanzania Football Association.
Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president, Wallace Karia stated that they are delighted to hire Amuneke aa their new coach and would support him in all areas to achieve successful results.
The TFF president added: “We are happy to have Amuneke who has played at the top and has a lot of experience as a coach. We have picked our very own from Africa.
“Amuneke will work with his assistant coach but will have another assistant and the technical crew will be Tanzanians.
“We shall have coaches for the other teams, but Amuneke will be the head starting with the 2019 African U-17 qualifiers which kick-off in Dar es Salaam this weekend.”
Before taking up his new job with Tanzania, Amuneke has worked as an assistant coach at Saudi Premier League side Al-Hazm and left to be a scout for Manchester United. Amunike took over the head coaching duties at Nigeria based Julius Berger in 2008 after which he went to coaching school in Europe. He became coach of Sudanese club side, Al Khartoum SC in November 2017, and left in March 2018.
