We’ve redeemed kayode from Manchester City – Palkin

Shakhtar general director Sergei Palkin has revealed that they have rescued Nigeria’s Olarewanju Kayode from his Manchester City’s nightmare.

On Friday night, the Ukraine club penned a five year deal with the Nigerian international who was on loan to Girona after signing for Man City last term without kicking a ball for the club.

A message via the club’s official website reads: ‘Kayode will continue to play for Shakhtar.

‘We redeemed him from Manchester City and he has signed a five-year contract.

‘He proved himself well, Paulo (Fonseca, Shakhtar manager) is pleased with him.’

  • Kayode was given a huge opportunity when City signed him and sent him to play in the top Spanish league to gain experience. He didn't make himself important at Girona and did nothing to force himself into the starting lineup. That was hardly Manchester City's fault. The very fact that he is now settled at Shakhtar Donetz with a 5 year contract would indicate that far from needing rescue from Man City he was assisted in his career by the club.
