Iceland proved they won’t be a pushover at the World Cup after holding ‘almighty’ Argentina 1-1 in Group D opening fixture on Saturday, to send a statement of intent to Nigeria and Croatia.
Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for Argentina with a fine finish and it was thought that would be the turning point of Iceland thrashing.
But they weather the storm after Augsburg’s Alfred Finnbogason levelled scores for Iceland to earn them a vital point.
Iceland who will face Nigeria in their second Group B match on Friday, now share one point with Argentina.
