Spanish midfielder, Andres Iniesta has revealed his destination after he leaves FC Barcelona this summer transfer window.
Iniesta took to Instagram to make the announcement, posting a picture of himself and Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani with a caption; “Heading to my new home, with my friend Hiroshi Mikitani.” Hiroshi happens to own Japanese J1 League club, Vissel Kobe.
Kobe who are currently 6th in the J1 League could really use the skill and experience Iniesta brings to improve the club’s performance. The move could also increase the possibilities of other world-class players transferring to the fast-growing Japanese league as we’ve seen in China in recent times.
The 34-year-old has won four Champions League titles and multiple Spanish League crowns during his time with Barcelona.
Iniesta who has been at Barcelona for 22 years played his final game for the Catalans last week and was given a befitting farewell ceremony. Barcelona legends including Carles Puyol and Xavi were also in attendance.
