The Super Eagles on Thursday retained their 47th position in the latest FIFA rankings.
Nigeria have 635 points, a point below Egypt, who are 46th in the world. The Eagles are still sixth in Africa.
The Eagles began 2018 by retaining the 51st position they dropped to in December but the team could not maintain the spot and slid down a spot in February to 52, which they retained in March. They climbed up five spots in April.
On the continent, the top six remain unchanged. Tunisia, who are Africa’s number one, retained their 14th position in the world. Senegal are second on the continent after they retained their 28th place in the world while DR Congo remained third and 38th. Morocco (42) and Egypt (46) are fourth and fifth on the continent respectively.
Cameroon and Ghana climbed up a spot to 50th in the world and are joint seventh in Africa while Burkina Faso dropped a place to 54th in the world. They are ninth on the continent. Cape Verde (58) complete the top 10 in Africa.
Nigeria’s Group D Russia 2018 opponents Croatia, Iceland and Argentina all retained their April spots in the rankings.
Croatia are still ranked 18th while South American giants Argentina are still fifth and Iceland are still 22nd.
No new country broke into the top 20 in the world. World Cup champions Germany and Brazil are still first and second. Belgium, Portugal and Switzerland are third, fourth and fifth while France and Spain are seventh and eighth. Chile and Poland complete the top 10.
