I’m happy at Barcelona – Digne

Despite a lack of minutes at Barcelona, left-back Lucas Digne insists he is happy at the ‘best club in the world’ and claims he isn’t arrogant enough to turn his lack of game-time into a media circus.

The 24-year-old has played second fiddle to Jordi Alba since joining the club from Roma in the summer of 2016 and has made just 44 appearances for the club in total.

Nevertheless, the French international believes he is constantly improving and is grateful for the opportunity to play for a team like the Catalans.

“I play in the biggest club in the world, I have the opportunity to be summoned in the French team, it’s hard not to smile, everything is fine in my life, in my family,” he told Le Parisien.

“Maybe people think I play a minor role but not at all, and I’m not one of those who shout in the media. Some may think that arrogance may be a quality, but I do not think the style of play represents the personality of a player.

“At the moment everything is going well, I would not hesitate to continue in this team. Despite France coach Didier Deschamps claiming that the World Cup squad will be similar to 24 players in its current line-up, Digne believes there is no room for complacency heading into this summer’s showpiece.

“We all want to be on this list, those who are selected have the opportunity to demonstrate what they are worth, but it’s up to us to play the right cards,” he continued.

“We have not arrived at Russia yet … we are not immune to injuries, to anything else; we must stay focused until the end and give everything.”

And with the current set-up a number of experienced members as well as talented youngsters, the defender believes France have the ability to win the World Cup.

“We have more experience,” he said.

“Being finalists of the Euro has given us a reputation, our opponents are cautious against us.

“Winning the World Cup, it is possible. There are in this group great players and talented boys. They can take us all the way.”
